Lions Clubs

In a joint effort the Lions Clubs of Manchester, Taconic Range, Bennington, and Norshaft (North Bennington and Shaftsbury) worked together to raise close to $22,000. $15,000 was matched by Lions International. As a condition for receiving this support the local Habitat affiliate matched the total Lions' contribution and built a home that was handicapped accessible. The home was built in East Arlington and Ruth Banghart and her family moved in to the home in July of 2005.

Bill Drunsic and The Perfect Wife sponsored a special promotion for the Lions with the proceeds providing significant financial help to the Lions' successful fund drive in support of the Habitat home that was completed in 2005 in East Arlington.

Modern Woodmen of America

"Our decision to support the work of Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity Affiliate is an example of our commitment to our community.  On August 6th and 14th of 2005, we held Bingo benefits with the net proceeds of over $500 given to Habitat. We held two more bingo events for Habitat during September of 2006 and raised $534."

Bingo at Woodmen Memorial Hall -- Roddy presented a check to Dick Malley, board member and Chair of the Development Committee.

Rotary Club of Manchester

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build good will and peace in the world.

Some recent examples of the work of the Manchester Club include;

  • The Manchester Rotary Club has a long history of undertaking recreational-type projects.  Most recently the club created and installed a kiddie playground at the Manchester Recreational Park.  It covers 40 by 50 feet.
  • For the past two years the club has sponsored a bike race up Mount Equinox (3,862 feet above sea level) with the proceeds going to Lyme disease research.  Check the race website for details www.gearupforlyme.com.  Lyme disease is the fastest growing illness in the region with a 40% increase in cases from 2002 to 2003 in the Albany and Southern Vermont areas.
  • The club has been involved over the years with the Youth Exchange program sending local kids overseas and sponsoring educational visits from students who spend a full year attending high school and living with host families.
  • The Manchester Rotary Club has provided generous support for Habitat's work in the local area.

Rotary President, Pete Webster, and fellow rotarian, Andy Shaw selling wreaths and trees for the holidays. The Manchester Rotary Club has designated the Bennington Area Habitat affiliate to be the recipient of the proceeds from the sale. We are most grateful for this generous support!

The Manchester Rotary meets Tuesdays at noon at Ye Olde Tavern on Main Street in Manchester Center.
