Governor Douglas

We are very proud of the recognition we received from Governor Douglas. We are pleased that he has repeatedly made statements about his concern for affordable housing in Vermont.

"I’m very pleased to support the Habitat for Humanity mission, and thank all the volunteers who have made it successful throughout the years,” the Governor said.  “Habitat for Humanity has been a valued partner in our efforts to solve Vermont’s housing affordability crisis.  My administration recognizes the great need for more affordable housing, and we will continue to work tirelessly to advance policies that help put the dream of homeownership within reach of more Vermonters.”

The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board

The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board is an independent, state-supported funding agency providing grants, loans and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, municipalities and state agencies for the development of perpetually affordable housing and for the conservation of important agricultural land, recreational land, natural areas and historic properties in Vermont.

The history of our support from VHCB

  • In 2004 VHCB provided a $19,000 grant to BAHfH for construction of the home in East Arlington.
  • In 2005 VHCB made a grant of $20,000 for a home in Shaftsbury.
  • In 2006 we received a grant of $20,000 for the home we completed in Winhall in January of 2007.
  • We received a grant of $22,000 for the home for constuction expenses and $5,000 for a stipend for our project manager for the house we built in Rupert in 2007.

"We want to encourage and support efforts that address the need for affordable housing at the local level. We have been impressed by the quality of the homes that BAHfH has built and the level of community involvement and support.  We look forward to participating in the construction and sale of more affordable homes."
