The Bank of Bennington was originally chartered as Bennington Co-operative Savings and Loan Association on May 14, 1917. The mission is to provide excellent service to area residents and includes commercial banking services for the small to medium-sized businesses located in our marketplace. We originate a large share of the home mortgage loans made in Bennington and Rensselaer Counties. We have introduced additional financial services, including Internet-based banking and investment sales and service. The Board of Directors is composed of local residents charged with the responsibility of enhancing the original philosophy of a community bank: providing home loans, business loans, and a variety of savings accounts, Certificates of Deposit, checking and Money Market Accounts.
Established in 1968, Bennington Iron Works, Inc. has the ability to design, detail, furnish, fabricate and erect structural steel, steel bars joists, metal decking and miscellaneous iron. We have completed projects in following states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. As required, for specific jobs, they can provide a union or a non-union erection crew. We are most grateful to BIW for donating the main beam for the homes we built in Shaftsbury, Rupert and West Rupert.

"We support BAHfH because, we are committed to investing in the communities in which we serve. We take pride in helping our neighbors, and understand that community strength ultimately makes for a stronger company. " In the spring of 2008, the Berkshire Bank found a most creative way to support Habitat. They donated funds sufficient for the purchase of building supplies for two sheds. As a part of their service learning requirement, students at Burr and Burton built a shed that was assembled at the West Rupert home on June 7, 2008. The shed give the Morey family badly needed storage space. In addition to helping a Habitat family, the students learned basic building skills from their teacher, Cliff Hay.

Bromley Mountain Ski Area Family Friendly Support for Habitat Last year a raffle of two mid-week seasons passes was conducted by Dianna Ivey's 8th grade advisory at MEMS. The students learned a lot about Habitat and the value of giving back to help others. They raised more than $600 and the funds were used for the home we completed in the fall of 2007 in Rupert. We are most grateful to Bromley Mountain for their generous support of our mission.
What We DoThe official description is “the collection, transfer, processing and disposal of non-hazardous waste” but, simply put, we make go away what people don’t want around. That’s where the simplicity ends. With the advent of recycling, the growing awareness of the health effects of unmanaged disposal and transfer sites; collecting, moving, sorting and safely disposing of our waste has become an often complex business. Casella Waste Management has helped us over the years by providing dumpsters at our work sites and also at the auctions in 2007 and 2008. We are most grateful to the management of Casella for their generous support. Comollo Antiques and Fne Wines ABOUT US AND THE SHOP - We have an old school, brick and mortar, open shop (a fast disappearing breed), where buying, selling, appraising, educating and talking about antiques, art, jewelry and cultural artifacts is all we do, period, full time, every day, for over 20 years. We have a constant stream of people bringing us stuff, and we get requests to come look at new things every day. Being in the Antiques business these days demands that one of us is constantly on the road, doing pickups, deliveries, appraisals, in home consultations, meeting with restorers and conservationists and traveling to specialized libraries and collections for research. We are the third generation of a family tradition and are unquestionably one of the busiest shops in Vermont! The next time you are in New England please be sure to stop here in Manchester Vermont to check out our little slice of heaven.

4686 Main Street We partner with Efficiency Vermont to keep construction costs down and make sure our homes are safe, healthy, durable and affordable over the long term. Efficiency Vermont is the nation's first statewide provider of energy efficiency services. Funded by an energy efficiency charge on Vermonter’s electric bills, Efficiency Vermont is an independent, non-profit organization under contract to the Vermont Public Service Board. They provide technical advice, financial assistance and design guidance to help make Vermont homes, farms, schools and businesses energy efficient.
Habitat receives a rebate for meeting specific requirements for insulation, ventilation, use of energy efficient appliances, and lighting.. There needs to be an Energy Star ventilation fan on a 24-hour timer. The heating system, refrigerator and dishwasher must be ENERGY STAR labeled. We install no fewer than eight hard-wired fixtures for energy efficient lights and each of our homes meets insulation and air sealing standards. We invest in good windows. Our houses are very tight; built to withstand Vermont’s cold winters. To learn about energy efficient appliances go to Energy Star Appliances. The Efficiency Vermont website contains lots of practical advice for residential and business users. By calling 888-921-5900, people can learn how to lower their energy bills, figure out why their electric bills are high, and get rebates for their energy-efficient purchases. In addition, people can get technical help and learn about financial incentives for energy-efficient buildings, equipment and lighting. We hope our good building practices and use of energy saving devices will serve as an example for other homeowners. If we can afford to incorporate energy efficiency into an affordable home, anybody can! Vermont's reduction of carbon dioxide in 2005, through energy efficiency in homes and businesses, provided the same emissions reductions that would have been achieved if 76, 300 fewer cars had traveled on Vermont's roads in 2005. Everyone can be part of reducing Vermont’s carbon emissions by following our example and working with Efficiency Vermont to reduce energy use. www.efficiencyvermont.com F. W. Serving Bennington County - working on custom homes: traditional, log and renovations. Lou Midura, Owner Lou and his crew of Rick Keyes, Justin Keyes, and Aaron Gates put up the plywood and the felt for the Winhall Home on the morning of September 14, 2006.
Rick, Justin, and Aaron spent Friday morning, June 1st putting the plywood and felt on the Lewis home in Rupert. They made short work of a job that would have taken volunteers more time and would have surely been risky for people not accustomed to this work! Lou and his crew helped us once again at the end of May 2008. They put the plywood and felt on the roof at the Morey home in West Rupert and thus saving us time and most importantly, leaving the high work to professionals, not to volunteers. We are most grateful to Lou and his crew for helping us out in this way. When asked why they were helping, Lou explained, "We have been very fortunate, we have the skills, and we are glad to be able to give back to help others in this way." Lou serves as the Zion Episcopal Church liaison to Habitat's Faith Relations Committee. On June 16, 2009, Lou Midura and his crew, Justin Keyes, Rick Keyes, and Rick Dailey volunteered to put the plywood sheathing and the felt paper on the North Bennington home. Once again, this was a tremendous help to us. The pitch of this roof was steep, and Lou and his men put it up with ease, saving us valuable time, and making it much safer for our volunteers.
Note that Lou wears the Red Sox

A home is the center of many people's dreams and a motivator for realizing one's potential. No one should be denied the privilege of owning a home. Ramsay Gourd found a creative way to raise awareness and funds for our affiliate. Ramsay trained hard for the Maple Leaf half marathon and he asked family and friends to sponsor him by making a donation to Habitat. Ramsay surprised himself by finishing the run faster than he ever expected, andhe never expected to raise as much money. His sponsors made extremely gemerous donations and came through with just over $10,000 in donations to Habitat! We are most grateful to Ramsay and to everyone who encouraged and supported him. We will use the funds to purchase building supplies for our next home.
Phil Mazzucco, owner of RMS Plumbing and Heating, donated the tubing for radiant heat in the Rupert Home. Because of his generosity, the heating for this home will cost no more than conventional baseboard heat. Accoding to Efficiencty Vermont, there will be a considerable cost saving because the water will not need to be heated to the same temperature as baseboard heat. This system will provide the Lewis family with years of a warm home at a considerable cost saving for the lifetime of the home. As a National Partner and a Cornerstone Society member of Habitat’s "More Than Houses” campaign, Schneider Electric has donated almost $6 million worth of residential electrical equipment for use in homes built in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In 2006, Schneider Electric renewed its commitment to Habitat with a pledge to donate $7 million worth of Square D® residential electrical equipment over the next four-and-a-half years. In addition, many of our people dedicate time and muscle to Habitat home builds. To further underscore our commitment to Habitat for Humanity, in 2007 the Schneider Electric/Square D Foundation will fund up to seven whole house sponsorships. The sponsorships fully fund the cost of the land, infrastructure and materials to build a Habitat home. The Foundation also funds the cost for employee teams to participate in one-day home building events. According to Habitat, 5.1 million American families have "worst-case" housing needs and are forced to pay more than half their income for housing, endure overcrowded conditions or live in houses with severe physical deficiencies. Worldwide, some 2 billion people live in poverty housing. More than 1 billion live in urban slums, and that figure is expected to double by 2030. Working in partnership with low-income families to build decent homes they can afford to buy, Habitat helps to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. We believe in the efforts of Habitat for Humanity and our role in facilitating our people’s involvement in Habitat activities in their communities. We are most grateful to Square D for supplying the circuit breakers for each of our homes. Stewart's Shops

We are most grateful to Amy and Geoff for finding such a creative way to support Habitat's mission. We thank everyone who took advantage of this opportunity to eat well and to support Habitat's work in our community. They did the same promotion in April of 2006 and a total of $6,025 was raised for Habitat as a result of this extradinarily generous promotion! Vermont Fuel Dealers Association VFDA is a non-profit organization of fuel marketers and associated companies in the heating business. First established in 1963 as the Vermont Oil Heat Institute, VFDA continues to serve as an advocate and resource for this vital industry.
VFDA also operates supplemental fuel assistance fund called the Patch Chit/Neighbor-in-Need Program. It creates and places pledges, or "chits," usually in 100 gallon fuel increments, in a pool for the use of the Department of Social Welfare's Emergency Fuel Program, and other similarly concerned programs. For over twenty years, the program has been used as a statewide "safety net" to address the emergency fuel needs of Vermonters. VFDA recently expanded the scope of the program to include assistance to Military Families with loved ones serving in Active Duty Status. VFDA works closely with state agencies, government officials, and other affected parties on issues involving fuel assistance. The Patch Chit/Neighbor-in-Need Program is just one of several efforts by Vermont’s heating fuel retailers to help those who need assistance the most during the cold winter.
The Vermont Fuel Dealers Association has donated the boiler for the houses we built in East Arlngton, Shaftsbury, Winhall, and Rupert. "We have chosen to support BAHfH because it is consistent with the efforts of our patch chit/neighbor-in-need program."
