November - In November we completed the railing for the stairs to the front and back porches, installed the railing and treads for the interior stairs (from the basement and to the second floor), applied touch-up paint where needed, installed the appliances and completed the punch list. We dedicated the home on November 7 and the Reed family will be able to move in to their new home by Thanksgiving.
October - Dean Hanson did a great job organizing our painting crew. Except for the touch up work, the painting has been completed. We have finished the flooring and Noble installed the kitchen cabinets. A group of students from the Stratton Mountain School did a great job finishing the painting on the second floor. The downstairs radiators have been installed. Students from Castleton State College came on the 23rd. They sanded and painted the baseboard. We will put the finish coats on the baseboard and will finish installing the interior doors. There is still lots to accomplish before the dedication - 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 7th. So, don't hesitate to volunteer!
September - The primary activity has been to finish the siding and the Sheetrock. As of September 9th, we only had a little left to complete on the siding - above the porch roof. The second floor was 2/3rds done with Sheetrock. By the end of September, we had completed the siding, the roof, and two coats of joint compound had been applied to the Sheetrock. We had started to paint some of the downstairs rooms.
August - August 4 and 7 were spent in preparation for the Global Village Team's work during August 9-13. We lined up the starter strips for the siding, Noble framed the front porch, and we finished the strapping for the siding. The Global Village Team did a great job - working mostly on the siding, building the front porch, and painting the shed. People from the community welcomed the Global Village team and provided lots of delicious snacks, lunches and dinners throughout their time with us. We are most grateful to the TEAM and to everyone who worked with them and made sure they had a memorable visit to Vermont. Vermont Foam insulated the exterior walls on September 18. We worked mostly on the siding. Site Supervisor, Steve Newton, worked on the back entrance. On Saturday, August 27, a group from the Old First Church of Bennington worked mostly on the sheetrock for the ceiling in two upstairs bedrooms. They did a great job.
These photos are from July. As of the end of July, we had completed 24 days of work on the home and estimate that we are half way done. We had great support from the community averaging over 20 volunteers every build day.
This slide show includes photos taken during the month of June.
These slides date from the start of the build, May 19 - through the end of May.
These slides show the plans designed by architect and board member, Larry Kolloff and the land prior to the start of the build.
