Auction 2011 - Saturday, July 16th - a beautiful summer day!
The 2011 Bennington Area Habitat annual auction and tag sale was held on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Habitat for Humanity is all about volunteers, team work, partnerships and community. A huge community (including Mother Nature) – came together for the Bennington Area Habitat Auction & Tag Sale. A heartfelt thank you all those who supported this major fund raiser by making a donation for the event and to those that were on hand to snap up the bargains including the Luger sailboat.
A special thank you to the community businesses, professionals and organizations: Year round storage and auction venue at Andy Tarantino’s A Safe Place Self Storage; auctioneer, Clarke Comollo; tents from Calvin Loven of Brandon; signage from Wood & Signs (Richard Farley) and Santelli Signs (Shadow); C & J Sanitation (Cory & Jason Stoddard); E. Dorset Fire Department for tables, Gourmet Deli (Melanie Allen); Casella Waste Management (dumpster), Harold Beebe and Dave Kutchukian – tents; Pad Print – parking; the Guide, Manchester Journal, Bennington Banner, Rutland Herald and Free Press for publicity. We are most grateful to Cliff Hay and some of his students from Burr and Burton Academy who made some Adirondack chairs and picnic tables for the auction.
Hurrahs for the registrars, runners, cashiers, tag sale workers - some 42 in all including 7 from Boy Scout Troup 332. Thank you all.
Proceeds from our annual auction support BAHfH projects – our 13th home on Jennifer Lane in Manchester for Randy, Michelle and Aiden Lewis coming soon, A Brush with Kindness – minor interior and exterior repairs for qualifying homes in the Southshire.
We are most grateful to the many volunteers who worked throughout the year to organize our auction and to collect donated items.

Before and on auction day help is needed sorting and marking tag sale items, parking, moving and 'running' with merchandise, helping with tents, sales, and cleanup, but, lastly, BUYERS! YOU are our best publicists about Habitat's events and projects...spread the word.

Our auction was a most successful event because it was teamwork at its best. Most of all, we thank Ruth Stewart, our auction team leader, and Charlie Stewart for their tireless work. Ruth's strong leadership and attention to detail was clearly evident.

with your suggestions!
We have already started to plan for next summer's auction. Please spread the word about our need for donations and the work of Habitat. During the year we need volunteers willing to pick up donations. On auction day - BUYERS are most important and over 50 people worked on this year's auction - sorting and marking tag sale items, parking, moving and 'running' with merchandise, helping with tents, sales, and cleanup.
Habitat is not all about building. There is much work that must occur before we can ever get to pounding nails. Whether it's making a donation for the auction or working behind the scenes doing publicity, fund raising, web page design and maintenance, Habitat is all about many volunteers working together to help others in the community where we live and work.
Auction Committee - Led by Ruth Stewart, a small committee organized the auction. They started planning for the auction in the early fall of 2010. Chair, Ruth Stewart, Nancy and John Cilio, Clarke Comollo, Sandi Hedman, Marion La Torella, Dick Malley, and Andy Tarantino.
