Thinking globally and acting locally!

Our work is a perfect example of thinking globally and acting locally.  Habitat for Humanity International is a  non-profit Christian housing organization that works to eliminate poverty housing around the world and to make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action.  Habitat has over 1,900 affiliates in all 50 states, and in Canada, Australia, and in 70 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.  Habitat welcomes family partners of any faith - or from no faith - who are willing to pick up a hammer to help improve the lives of families needing decent shelter.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Founded in Americus, Georgia, USA, in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today operates around the globe.

We encourage you to read the 2014 annual report, which includes stories and numbers that detail great successes — including the tremendous news that we have now partnered with more than 1 million families to help them create better lives in new or improved homes since our founding in 1976.

We're also celebrating the fact that during the last fiscal year, we served more than 300,000 families — about 1.6 million people — through construction and increased access to improved shelter. In addition to serving families directly, we also provided a wide range of indirect services that helped another 1.6 million people have the potential to improve their housing conditions.  So altogether, because of the extraordinary commitment of our volunteers and supporters, Habitat has helped more than 3 million people last year.On November 20, 2014, Habitat celebrated its 1,000,000th house built, rehabilitated or repaired. The milestone was marked as Habitat announced that — for the first time in the organization’s history — more than 300,000 families had been served in a single fiscal year. That means Habitat has helped an estimated 5 million people around the world since 1976.

Spurred by the conviction that affordable housing helps break the cycle of poverty, the Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity Affiliate contributed to this global effort to offer a hand up to more families in need of adequate shelter. Since 1999, the Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate has served more than twenty-six families through housing solutions, including new construction, rehabilitations and repairs for safety and energy savings.

Our Vision - A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Mission Statement

About Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity

The Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. The Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.  Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

All are welcome

The Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and serves people from all backgrounds in need of decent housing,  As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

What we do....

Habitat organizations build, renovate and repair houses in partnership with people in need of adequate housing.  Homeowners are selected locally by Habitat organizations based on their need for housing, ability to pay a no-profit loan and willingness to partner with Habitat.  Loan repayments contribute to help build and repair additional houses.  Because Habitat's loans are no-profit, they are affordable for low-income partners.

Please consider what your support of Habitat  can make possible!

  • In fiscal year 2014, Habitat for Humanity helped more than 300,000 people improve their living conditions and change their lives. We know that decent shelter can have a transformational, long-term impact on individual families and entire communities, because we have seen it more than 1,000,000 times since Habitat started building houses in 1976.
  • As highlighted in Habitat's Annual Report, the people behind those numbers – the determined families, the generous donors, the tireless volunteers – are living testament to the simple but powerful foundation of Habitat's work.
  • Every 5½ minutes, somewhere in the world, Habitat for Humanity is helping people to improve their living situation – through construction, repairs, rehabs or incremental building. If you've given money to Habitat, you're a critical part of that success story.
  • Habitat's vision – of a world where everyone has a decent place to live – is not simply about building. It's about building UP ... families, communities, and momentum.

Throughout the year, Habitat is privileged to help families improve their living conditions. Habitat helps people create new opportunities, and we share with them the joy and security of a place to call home!  Everyone deserves to know the blessings of faith, of family, and of home.
