DonateIf I give to Habitat for Humanity, will my contribution be used to build homes in Vermont? How does building locally help build more homes in other countries? What is the Cars for Homes Program? How can I leave a bequest to Habitat?
Your gift could help buy: $25 = A Box of Nails $50 = Paint for two bedrooms $100 = Bathroom Vanity $250 = Exterior Door $500 = Kitchen Countertops $1,000 = Interior Doors If I give to Habitat for Humanity, will my contribution be used to build homes in Vermont?
There are two ways to insure that your gifts will be used to build homes locally. If you contribute to Habitat for Humanity and want your gift to be used in our part of Vermont, you need to designate this when you make your contribution. The simpliest way is to make a contribution directly to our affiliate by mailing a check to Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 456, Bennington, Vermont 05201. How does building locally help build more homes in other countries? Your gift is used as you specify. If you donate directly to our affiliate or through Habitat for Humanity International and specify that you wish your donation to be allocated to our affiliate, your gift will fund construction projects in Bennington County. Undesignated gifts are used where most needed including administrative purposes. Visit Habitat for Humanity International for more information on how your donations are used. Unless specifically requested by the donor, 10% of all cash contributions are tithed to Habitat International for use in another country. For the past several years we have split our tithe between Uganda and India. We have personal contacts with Habitat affiliates in both coutries. Both countries have a tremendous need for housing. Ninety-five percent of all contributions are used to build homes! We are an all-volunteer organization. We strive to keep our expenses for our administrative expenses to a minimum. These expenses include mailings, website, and our newsletter. This means that 95% of all contributions directly support our work in building homes for hard working people in our community. What is the Cars for Homes Program? Your vehicle donation can help a family build a home, and the hope of a better life! Car, truck, boat and RV donations help Habitat for Humanity build houses in partnership with families in need of decent, affordable shelter. Donate a car, truck, boat, RV or other vehicle to Cars for Homes™, Habitat for Humanity’s official car donation program, by calling 1-877-277-4344 (toll free) or online at www.carsforhomes.org. In 2008, five cars were donated to Habitat with the proceeds helping us build homes in Bennington County. One of the easiest ways to make a gift to the Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate is by designating BAHfH as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or of an IRA. You can also leave our affiliate a bequest in your Will. There are several ways you can do this. You can (1) give a specific amount of money to BAHfH; (2) give a specific item of property to BAHfH; or (3) give a specified percentage of the residue of your estate to BAHfH (the residue of your estate is that which is left over after all specific gifts have been made, whether charitable or non-charitable). | ||
